Parin’s Stolperstein
In the 1990s, artist Gunter Demnig launched the Stolperstein (stumbling stone) project in Berlin, Germany. Brass plaques are embedded in the pavement in front of homes where Jews had lived before they were deported to prisons and camps. These memorials to Holocaust victims can be found all over Europe, including in Italy.
Demnig traveled to Trieste on International Holocaust Remembrance Day in January 2019 to place a Stolperstein at via di Torre Bianca 22, Parin’s residence from 1940 to 1944.
